Job Description

Join Cartwheel to help tackle the student mental health crisis.

Cartwheel is an early-stage company building a new kind of mental health program for kids that puts schools at the center. We see our role as supporting school staff who see kids every single day. Instead of going around them, we collaborate with them. This means:

  • Earlier intervention
  • Higher student and family engagement in care
  • Better coordination among the trusted adults in a student’s life

Kids shouldn't just aspire to get out of bed and drag themselves to class. They should be able to experience joy. They deserve to envision and build a life they’re excited to live. If you join Cartwheel, you’ll help make this vision a reality for millions of students across the country. We’re backed by top investors including Menlo Ventures, Reach Capital, General Catalyst, BoxGroup, and Able Partners, and we're looking for mission-driven teammates to join our team.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We’re looking for a team-oriented and mission-driven Licensing Specialist to ensure Cartwheel’s team of mental health providers is appropriately licensed to deliver services to the populations we serve, and to pursue cross-licensure for our clinicians to support Cartwheel’s growth into new geographies. This is a contract position and you will work approximately 20-35 hours per week based on volume. You will report to the VP of Operations and work closely with our broader Operations and Clinical teams.

Role type: Contract, Hourly (approximately 20-35 hours per week based on volume, with flexibility to set your own schedule within Cartwheel’s hours of operations 8am-8pm)

Location: Remote in the U.S.

Start date: March 2025

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Research licensure requirements by state and license type
  • Complete new license application requests and conduct all follow up, in close partnership with our providers
  • Obtain DEA licenses and support collaborative agreements for Cartwheel’s psychiatric providers
  • Maintain accurate database information in systems such as Verifiable, CAQH and the Cartwheel portal
  • Monitor provider licensure status and ensure we stay current on all requirements
  • Complete credentialing applications
  • Support payer enrollment and contracting as necessary

WHO YOU ARE

You are a great fit for this position if you have…

  • Prior experience in licensing and/or credentialing in a mental health care services organization with >100 providers
  • Prior experience with licensing and/or credentialing in >10 states
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with Cartwheel’s providers and other internal stakeholders as well as external parties such as state licensing departments and health plans.
  • Excellent organizational and documentation skills.
  • A passion for supporting the mental health of students including those from diverse communities.
  • Ability to learn quickly and desire to join an early-stage, rapidly-growing organization.

The above is a summary of the role, not an exhaustive list. If you think that you have most of the above but not everything, please apply. We'd love to hear from you.

WHY YOU’LL LOVE CARTWHEEL

Our hope is that Cartwheel will be your best career decision! In addition to tackling one of the biggest challenges of our time, at a company well-positioned to do so, you’ll have:

  • Team-based culture with mission-driven colleagues who will go to bat for you
  • Competitive cash compensation between $25-35/hr based on relevant experience

Cartwheel is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We embrace diverse backgrounds and perspectives and an inclusive work environment. We're committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, disability status, or veteran status.
