Health Equity Coordinator

  • Full Time/Non-Exempt: 36-hours a week
  • Schedule: Flexible schedule Monday thru Friday with availability to work weekends.
  • $44,100 annually
Description
The Bridge is in search of a Health Equity Coordinator whose primary objective is to utilize the Close to Home model to enhance financial security and leadership opportunities, particularly for young women ages 13-24 in the City of South Houston and Pasadena community. This role focuses on reducing several risk factors of violence, including poverty, unemployment, and gender inequality by mobilizing community collaboration to develop community-wide programs that increase opportunities for economic growth of young women. The Health Equity Coordinator will prioritize building strong partnerships with local community organizations and businesses to develop a change in attitudes about women in leadership roles to enhance financial stability growth of women in our community.
The Health Equity Coordinator will utilize the Close to Home Model to structure and implement all activities to employ a community-level approach to all programming. Build, strengthen and maintain relationships with community leaders, local businesses, and organizations to support initiatives for young women’s financial economic growth in the community.
Develop and facilitate a Women in Leadership Coalition comprised of representatives from local businesses and organizations to implement a mentorship program for young women in the community to support economic growth and leadership opportunities. Work with the Women in Leadership Coalition to develop and advocate for model policies, practices, and programs that support economic and leadership opportunities for girls and women ages 13–24, and to help establish comparable-worth policies within local businesses to address the gender pay gap and ensure fair compensation for young women.
Implement assessment tools and strategies to understand community-wide attitudes, norms, and policies surrounding leadership and economic growth opportunities for young women in the City of South Houston and surrounding Pasadena community, and evaluation tools to track the progress of community organizing efforts and activities.
Partner with local organizations and businesses to create paid internship opportunities. Collaborate with the Education & Prevention Team, community organizations, small businesses, and local leaders to support ongoing program improvement. Attend trainings and technical assistance workshops on primary prevention of sexual violence offered by the Texas Association Against Sexual Assault. Complete activity tracking forms and assist the Education & Prevention Director and Primary Prevention Coordinator with quarterly grant reports. Set a weekly schedule based on community needs; evening and weekend availability is required.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • A High School Diploma/GED, associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Degree in Public Health or Social Work specializing in Macro Practice preferred
  • Experience in community-level work required
  • Experience in health equity with a focus in financial security preferred
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher) and have accurate data entry skills
  • Embodies a culturally humble approach and strengths-based perspective
  • Strong networking and relationship-building skills with diverse communities, organizations, and institutions
  • Knowledge of the City of South Houston and Pasadena community
  • Knowledge of health disparities and inequities
  • Strong creativity and organizational skills
  • Works well independently
  • Strong communication skills–written and oral
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, negotiating, and mediating skills.
Other Requirements
  • Must pass criminal background investigation check
  • Must pass drug screen
  • Must provide and maintain current TX Driver’s License
  • Must provide and maintain clean driving record and annually update driving record
  • Must provide and maintain current auto liability insurance
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S
  • Must be able to lift/carry (40) lbs, and ascend/descend stairs in emergency shelter setting
